Crisp cool mornings, light offshore breezes and warm water – this is September in the Basque region.
A 2 day quick strike mission starts with over 8 hours non stop driving through the night. We reach this place in time to see the last stars flickering as board bags are pulled from the roof. Dawn patrol started when we left Paris at 10pm Friday night. Car full of friends, a little herb and few beers is exchanged for a night out on the town. Wasting time on surfing is the best waste of time. At least that’s what I tell my wife.
Struggling to surf while living in a city so far from the ocean is painful, sometimes it feels down right cruel. It’s why we make these insane drives when the slightest blip of swell is predicted. C’est la vie. At least we get something.
